Greetings! In this document, I have outlined the objectives, policies, and procedures by which we will operate in my class. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

Required Supplies List

· One 2 ½ or 3 inch 3-ring binder (This binder will be used for every class) with lined paper

· 10 binder dividers (one for each class period)

· One 3-ring Pencil Pouch (to stay in the binder)

· One spiral notebook (to stay in the binder under math divider for class notes)

· 10 Pencils (at least 5 traditional-styled #2 pencils required in the pouch at all times; the remaining can be mechanical)

· 10 Pens (5 blue or black and 5 red or some other color)

· 2 Erasers

You MUST have ALL required supplies by THURSDAY – FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 1ST – 2ND, 2011. If you cannot obtain all said items for one reason or another, then speak with me by WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 31ST, 2011. It is critical for you to maintain an organized binder from which to study.

Course Description:

The fundamentals of the French Language are presented in French I, emphasizing basic interpersonal communication, vocabulary development, pronunciation, grammar structures, and cultural enrichment.

Textbook: Bon Voyage Level I, Glencoe McGraw Hill, Texas Edition, Columbus, Ohio, 2005 ISBN: 0-0708667429

Student Requirements: Students are responsible for active participation/oral practice in class, and for completing assignments bu the due date.

Methods of Instruction: A combination of Total Physical Response, oral response, question/answer, cooperative learning, pronunciation, graphic organizers, foldables, and

cultural reading will be used in this course.

Course Objectives:

The students will be able to:

1. Express basic greetings and share basic personal information

2. Demonstrate knowledge of basic vocabulary.

3. Describe self, others, and objects, and express preferences

4. Count to one million, tell time, and use calendar skills

5. Conjugate regular and irregular verbs and use them in sentences

6. Use the appropriate definite or indefinite article

7. Demonstrate understanding of the cultures of the francophone world.

First Six Weeks: Chapters 1 – 2

Second Six Weeks: Chapters 3 – 4

Third Six Weeks: Chapters 5 – 6

Fourth Six Weeks: Chapters 7 – 8

Fifth Six Weeks Chapters 9 -10

Sixth Six Weeks: Chapters 11 - 12

Class Protocol

Consequences for Misbehavior

Allow me to preface by saying that I expect exemplary behavior from you due to your “HIGH SCHOOL” status.

1st major offense during a class period – Verbal Warning

2nd major offense during a class period – Referral and Parent or Guardian/Student/Teacher/Principal Conference

If a student commits any offense during a class period OR creates/contributes to a severe disruption, the student will be written a referral and escorted out of the classroom by security.

Binder Policy

You are expected to bring your binder each day.

Electronics Policy

NO ELECTRONIC DEVICES (cell phones/i-Pods/mp3 players/CD players/Earphones) are allowed by students on campus. I will confiscate any I see. In all fairness, you have been informed.

1st time: Pay $5 and receive the confiscated device the following day.

2nd time: Pay $10 and receive the confiscated device the following day.

3rd time: Pay $15 and receive the confiscated device the following day.

4th time: Electronic device will be confiscated for the rest of the school year.

Tardy Policy

The door will be locked once the tardy bell rings. If you are late, go to the nearest tardy machine and obtain a slip.

Bathroom Policy

Take care of business before class. No hall passes are allowed.

Grading Policy

Grade Weights for Determining Six Weeks Grades

  • Class work/Homework* 40% (no more than ½ homework)
  • Tests 25% grade weight
  • Projects/Products 20% grade weight (ex: composition, research paper, presentation, report)
  • Six weeks test grade 15% grade weight

Re-test Policy for Grades 9-12

A student will be permitted to retake any major test that she or he has failed, with the exception of ACPs, within five school days the failing grade was received or no later than ten days of the date of the test. The higher score earned on either test will be recorded in the grade book, and the lower score removed (not averaged). EIA (REGULATION)

Questions/Answers

Q: I missed class due to an unexcused absence; may I turn work in late?

A: Yes. Work will be accepted regardless. The attendance appeal committee will handle the validity of absences.

Q: What do I do if I missed class?

A: The work from the day(s) missed will be issued at the beginning of class. The work includes notes, examples, quiz, and homework. Of course you may copy the notes from a classmate. All missed assignments are due within ____ school days. If you have questions or need additional help, schedule a time to come visit with me before or after school.
